Why Blue Light?

Staring at digital screens hurts your eyes. Our blue light glasses help.

Why should people use blue light glasses? According to Harvard Health Publishing, blue light can affect your sleep and potentially cause disease exacerbated by the proliferation of electronics with screens. Energy-efficient lighting, also increases our exposure to blue wavelengths.

Forbes reports that we spend 12 hours a day, on average, in front of digital devices. Blue light emitted by screens such as computers, mobile phones, tablets, and TVs can cause damage to the retina, and cause eye strain, eye fatigue, and even sleep cycle disruption.

According to the organization Prevent Blindness, almost all visible blue light passes through the cornea and lens and to reach the retina. This light may affect vision and could prematurely age the eyes. Early research shows that too much exposure to blue light could lead to:

Digital eye strain— Blue light from computer screens and digital devices can decrease contrast leading to digital eyestrain. Fatigue, dry eyes, bad lighting, or how you sit in front of the computer can cause eyestrain. Symptoms of eyestrain include sore or irritated eyes and difficulty focusing.

Retina damage— Studies suggest that continued exposure to blue light over time could lead to damaged retinal cells. This can cause vision problems like age-related macular degeneration.
